The timeless story of Cyrano de Bergerac is one of the most famous romances of all time. Where better to set this story of unrequited feelings, love notes, and physical insecurity than a high school?
CALVIN BERGER—winner of the Jerry Bock Award, Richard Rodgers Award, Kleban Prize, and Noel Coward Prize—is a hip, heartfelt, hysterical new musical by Barry Wyner, loosely based on Cyrano De Bergerac. It has been performed at Barrington Stage and Manhattan Theatre Club, and most recently at George Street Playhouse under the direction of 3-time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall (Nice Work, Anything Goes, The Pajama Game).
Playbill says: “The Calvin Berger score offers songs that express the characters, move the action, and consistently entertain. More impressive are the lyrics: funny, smart, and forever propelling the action along. And sly; Wyner keeps throwing in comments — Calvin is a musical-comedy rendition of the loquacious Cyrano, after all — that add another layer to the already bountiful humor. ”
